Ohio Office of Families and Children offers a Grant Program for Adoptive Parents

Effective April 7, 2023, the Ohio Adoption Grant Program gives adoptive parents the opportunity to apply for a one-time payment.

  • Ohioans who adopt can apply for a $10,000 one-time payment.
  • Those who adopt a child they’ve been fostering can apply for a $15,000 one-time payment.
  • If the child has one or more special needs (as defined in the law) prior to the adoption finalization, the parent can apply for a one-time payment of $20,000.

How do you know if you are eligible to apply for the Ohio Adoption Grant?

  • You adopted a child under the age of 18 on or after January 1, 2023
  • You are applying less than one year after the adoption became final
  • You live in Ohio at the time of the application
  • This is not a step-parent adoption

The Ohio Adoption Grant Program was signed into law on January 6, 2023, by Governor DeWine as part of House Bill 45 of the 134th General Assembly.
